Travel On My Mind ...
Posted by Johnny Lord on
Having settled back at home after our summer of day trips and travels, I find that I have travel on my mind again. Specifically a trip to Japan.
Japan, it’s art, culture, place and people have always fascinated me and I’d love to visit. But, I live on the other side of the world, in Yorkshire, so it’ll need a lot of saving up to get there. Despite the difference in languages, culture and the massive physical distances, I love that there are also similarities. Yorkshire and Japan a both hilly and cold at times, they've produced great literature and art, tea drinking has big place in our hearts and Kintsugi – the Japanese method of repair that creates beauty from damage, feels similar to the ‘make do and mend’ spirit, that prevails in Yorkshire.
So it’s no surprise that the fascination with Japan inspired me to explore that theme in my art. I've done several pieces, which explore aspects of Japanese culture and our relationship with it, as observers. We’ve turned the original hand painted and drawn pieces into digital form and they’re available as t-shirts, hoodies, and art prints,.
